What Are the Rubber Grommet Materials?

Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR)

SBR comprises 75% butadiene and 25% styrene and has good abrasion resistance and aging stability when protected by additives. It is a low-cost option similar to nitrile rubber and is commonly used in hoses, gaskets, belts, and seals.

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM)

This synthetic rubber is resistant to heat, light, and ozone exposure. EPDM is ideal for sealing applications because it is electrically insulating and weather-resistant.

Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE)

TPEs, also known as thermoplastic rubbers, are a type of copolymer or a physical mix of polymers (usually plastic and rubber) that have both thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. They are low-cost materials with excellent electrical properties and resistance to flexural fatigue, chemicals, and weathering.

Thermoplastic Vulcanizate (TPV)

TPV is a TPE that has been vulcanized using resin and synthetic rubber technology. It is an excellent choice for sealing applications because its properties resemble EPDM. TPV is also used in the automotive industry for under-the-hood applications requiring heat and oil resistance.

Push-in flexible grommets are made from TPE and polypropylene. They are simple to install and do not require any tools. They are also ideal for small-space applications, such as control panels and unthreaded holes.

Diaphragm Grommets

These rubber cable grommets with a thin central film can be punctured to allow different wire sizes to pass through an enclosure or a panel. They are commonly found in control systems and are available in TPE.

Quick Fit Grommets

Quick-fit grommets are available in TPE or silicone and can be made for quick and easy installation. They are frequently found in panels and enclosures.

Rubber Grommets Edging

Rubber grommet edging comes in TPE and protects wire or cable runs along rough edges. They are used as automotive and industrial rubber grommets and come in rolls that users can cut to their desired length.
