Most rubber types boast elasticity, durability, and thermal contraction characteristics, and they are produced either by natural processes or synthetically by undergoing chemical processes. However, rubber is made in several forms, each created to feature unique characteristics to suit various application needs.

Neoprene

Also known as chloroprene, neoprene is an older synthetic rubber type with very high resistance to burning, degradation, and corrosion.

Buna-N

This rubber type is an elastomer called nitrile rubber that is free from the allergenic proteins found in latex-based rubbers. Buna-N has reliable structural integrity and compression, heat, and wear resistance.

Fluoroelastomer

Fluorocarbon compounds are ideal for harsh and demanding environments as they can withstand extreme temperatures and severe chemical exposure.

EPDM

Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) is a synthetic rubber compound that is highly durable to damage and temperature-related degradation. It also features excellent noise insulation properties.

SBR

Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is a synthetic general-purpose elastomer featuring superior hardness and durability. It outperforms many more costly synthetic rubbers regarding water swell, abrasion resistance, and compression set.

  • Enhances the look of drilled or punched holes.
  • Reduces noise and vibration when working with light machines or equipment.

Recessed Bumpers

Recessed Rubber Bumpers are commonly used to protect and prevent abrasions caused by surface contact with materials such as metal or wood. They are ideal for absorbing shock and high chemical contact and are durable to protect hard surfaces. The most common uses of Recessed Rubber Bumpers are door stops or drawer stops. The recessed bumper has a hollow center for fasteners or screws. Our Recessed Bumper product line includes:

  • Stock Recessed Bumpers
  • Stock Stem Bumpers
  • Stock Catch Bumpers
  • Stock Bumper Pads
  • Stock Screw Bumpers
  • Stock Truck Bumpers
  • 3M(TM) Bumpers

Molded Parts

Designing new products or parts around existing components can be costly and time-consuming. At Astro-Tex, we want to help you find or create the specific part you need for your project.

If you go for custom molded parts, you won’t need to change the design of your machine or product, and all you need to do is change the design of the rubber part prototype. With customized molded parts for your project, you can be guaranteed the functionality, fit, and form of the final component in the product.

Common Use For Molded Rubber Parts Solutions

  • Sealing. It can prevent water damage or leakage, corrosion, and deterioration from weather and provides an airtight barrier to prevent air or heat loss.
  • Noise, vibration, and shock isolation. Because of its resiliency, rubber is suitable for shock absorption in equipment that moves around or creates vibration or noise.
  • General protection. Rubber can create a buffer between rough surfaces and sharp edges.

Rubber Molding And Rubber-To-Metal Bonding Processes

  • Rubber molding produces rubber parts by pressing a rubber block into a metal cavity, and the rubberized interior is then exposed to high heat to activate a chemical reaction. The three most popular methods for rubber molding are injection molding, compression molding, and transfer molding.
  • Rubber-to-metal bonding is a process that involves a mold with metal inserts that the rubber is attached to during the molding process. A heat-activated adhesive is sprayed onto the metal parts before they are placed into the mold. Rubber-to-metal bonding is an excellent solution for products requiring metal stability and rubber flexibility.

Extrusion & Rubber Parts

Astro-Tex Company, Inc. is a premier standard and custom rubber extrusion manufacturer. We offer one of the widest ranges of materials and durometers available to the industry today. We can extrude simple shapes and complex profiles up to 4″ wide, lengths from 100′ to 500′ for smaller profiles and 10′-25′ for larger or coiled products.

How Does Rubber Extrusion Work?

The rubber extrusion process starts with a rubber compound placed into an extruder. Next, the material is fed into a hopper, which takes the material and passes it into different flutes in a revolving screw. The screw then carries the rubber forward into the die or a thick, circular steel disk containing one or more openings to create the desired profile. As the pressure and temperature increase, the material gets closer to the die itself, and as it emerges and acquires its shape.

Finished extruded products are vulcanized or hardened before you can use them. Depending on the elastomer or application, we employ several curing methods to ensure the extrusion performs as intended. High precision dies combined with agile and efficient production in our ISO 9001:2008 certified facility enables us to maintain tight RMA A3 tolerances for commercial products. We work with Neoprene, Buna-N, Fluoroelastomer, EPDM, SBR, flexible PVC, and silicone materials.

Our extrusion products include:

  • U Channel Extrusions
  • Custom Rubber Extrusions
  • Custom Short-Run Extrusions

Crutch & End Tips

Millions of disabled people rely on sticks, crutches, and other aids for walking. All these aids have rubber tips at their base. These rubberized tips reduce risks of slipping caused by contact between metal or wooden aids and the floor, prevent noise, enhance longevity, and make easy replaceability when worn. These tips protect the patient by giving the crutches more stability and traction.

Astro-Tex produces stock crutch tips and stock end tips.

  • Stock Crutch Tips. Our products come in various sizes and colors (black, white, grey, or customized through particular order). These tips can be ribbed or smooth outside the wall and are made from 60 durometers black SBR material.
  • Stock End Tips. Like crutch tips, stock end tips are available in 60 durometers black SBR. Astro-Tex has product line catalogs and can accept low minimum orders for stocked parts.

Step Bushing

A rubber bushing is a vibration isolator placed between two parts to reduce their motion and absorb, mollify, and buffer the energy produced by their interaction. Rubber bushings are used for various equipment and machinery due to their known stability and strength.

Although they are an essential part of vehicles for their vibration suppression properties, other forms of machinery use them for their nullifying characteristics to protect equipment from wear by keeping the connected pieces from moving and vibrating.

Lifter Tools

Astro-Tex Company, Inc. lifter tools can lift, transfer, or grab non-porous materials, keeping employees’ hands safe from dangerous working areas.

The rubberized handle is easy to use and lets machine operators control the load with their hands. Lifting height is easily adjusted with the handle, allowing the operator to lift and precisely lower the load.

Our lifters have strengthened steel rods and oil-resistant flexible vacuum cups. Replacement parts for the vacuum tools are also available, including rubber cups and internal vacuum valve assemblies. Our product line includes:

  • Punch Press Material Handling Tool (for easy release of material)
  • Seamless Steel Rod (for industrial use)
  • Quality Rubber Cups (to ensure longevity)
  • Textured Pistol Grip (for outstanding grip and accuracy)

Suction Cups

Our suction cups are mainly used as a handling system for surface equipment or tools like glass, metal sheets, wood board, molded products, tubes, and more. Our Custom suction services consider the application and the environmental requirements to identify what raw materials will meet your needs.
We use high-grade materials depending on what or where to use the suction cup.

Laboratory Stoppers

Keep your chemistry experiments clean and safe with rubber stoppers! Our durable plugs fit tightly into test tubes or flasks to prevent chemical leaks and spills. The standard lab stopper sizes have one hole, two holes, and solid ones. They are made of 50 durometer black rubber, and Neoprene and Pure Gum are available per special order.
